WHAT THE KIDS SAY
I like to use the Barbie doll more like a Neon sign and to draw on that anything, I don't play with dolls much any more. But it's really cool and I would could have been my favorite if I was younger. I didn't really read the instructions but I understood enough by playing with it.
"I like this Barbie because she is so fancy with all the lights" "I wish I could change her dress". "She is a good Rock star"
I like playing with this Barbie ease she is different. I love the bright colours and I like to draw designs on her tummy and change the designs. She looks really cool in the dark.
I love all Barbie dolls but this one is special because the patterns on her belly glow in the dark. Sometimes I sneak it under my covers and play with it at night! It's too bad I can dress her up because the clothes do not really fit her. My favourite part is making words and patters and playing music so I can see the colours change. I don't really know how it all works but I figure out more and more everyday. I like to show this doll to my friends - they say it's awesome:-)
I really like how you can do all the colours and patterns on her. I don't think I understand how to do everything. We put on the music and it kind of worked. It's hard to remember all the different things that she does.
I like being able to choose my own colours and making my own designs. It is pretty easy to erase your designs. It is easier to make a design by dotting with the pen (or your finger) than trying to use the pen like on a piece of paper. My favourite part is putting on the music and seeing my design go to the beat of the music. It really does work!
WHAT ADULTS THINK
Really neat, to make your own neon sign. The instructions are not the clearest, and I had to reference the instructions quite often before I understood enough to show her how things are done. The doll is not really intuitive to use, but once Mia (F10) understood the basics, she had a great time writing me a message and making a picture with the dots. The technology is well done and you can't tell that this doll has a digital dress when the power is off.
Zahra (F6) really likes the idea of her own designs on the dress. I like to see her being creative with it. Barbie's body is a square and Zahra doesn't play with it like her other dolls. Barbie is well made, we liked the stand that has a spot for the stylus. Good quality.
I love the idea of how the child can draw on the dress with the stylus or her fingers. The Barbie and her stylus have a stand that holds both her and the stylus - brilliant! Finally, smart storage! It does take a little practice to actually draw and recognizable pattern/shape on the doll. Both girls who tested it (7 & 7) loved how they could change the colours so easily. I had to read through the instructions a number of times before I could remember what the different coloured buttons on Barbie meant (ie. turn on/off, new design, synch pattern to music) and started with just the design button for the girls. On the first play session, we did not even get to the letter/word options that you can design on Barbie. The girls understood right away that this wasn't a "play" Barbie - she was more of a stand alone and design Barbie. She immediately feels different - for example, her legs are not bendable, her midsection is much bigger and wider in order to hold and project the designs. Very interesting concept so far!
You know, I didn't really think much of this toy - who wants a doll whose dress lights up? Well I was really wrong, apparently my child (F6) does - she hasn't put this doll down since she got it. This doll comes with a dress that lights up and that you can manipulte the designs and spell words out that run across the dress. The doll is very easly to operate. The instructions that came with it leave much to be desired. For example - it tells you how to save a dress design in the memory, but not how to retrive them - we are still trying to figure that out. The only suggestions I have for this doll is that they 1) include some sort of pocket on the dress for the pen to fit into 2) add an extra pen in the box. We lost ours about 5 minutes after it came out of the box, luckily you can use your fingers to make the lights work. We also tried an old DS pen and the cap of regular pen- they also did the trick. Only the doll's head and arms move, the rest of her is static. The batteries fit in each of her legs, so they don't bend. This doesn't seem to bother my daughter she was able to change her shoes and brush her hair. The shoes and the jewelery are removeable and fit on other Barbies. Overall a really enjoyable toy.
