WHAT THE KIDS SAY
It's fun to figure out the traps and open the handcuffs before the other person. I liked racing against my friends to see who can open the handcuffs the fastest. I mastered it and beat everyone now. I don't like that it's so simple and now it's boring because I'm a master at it. I wish there were more difficult levels. I memorized them all already.
I like that it is challenging, but the red level is too challenging. My friends can get out but I can't. I wish I could add more levels so there were more choices. One time my little sister (6) played with my friends and she won the last round but lost the first two rounds and ended up winning the game because of the point system. I don't like being attached to everyone. There was a lot of pulling and it made it harder to try and focus. It's interesting that on the box the name has handcuffs on the Es. They are the handcuffs from the game. I like that it is like prison and you have to escape. I like the hashtags and the social media pictures on the box and I like the brand's name Yuzu. It says that it is only available at Target but we don't have Target.
I like how the handcuffs work - that there are different puzzles and different levels of difficulty. You can adjust the handcuffs to the size of your wrists so that they are comfortable and fit a variety of people. I played the actual game only once but I used the handcuffs all the time. I tried different challenges with the handcuffs like 4 handcuffs on me, in the dark, behind my back. I would race my friend to see which one of us could escape. I loved using the handcuffs for these challenges. The key worked easily and the handcuffs were easy to setup and use. We had alot of fun doing challenges with the handcuffs. I liked the 3 different levels of handcuffs but I wish there were even more levels since eventually I had all the levels memorized and then it became easy. I wish the handcuffs could adjust even smaller since even at the smallest setting my sisters (8 yrs old) wrists were too small and could slip right out of the handcuffs so she couldn't play the game or do the challenges with me. It was fine for my parents and all of my friends.
WHAT ADULTS THINK
It's a cool concept for a board game where everyone is playing at the same time. It seems geared towards boys and gives them the opportunity to be active while playing. Speed and determination are key elements in winning the game. My son (9) had a great time playing with friends. It was fun and exciting watching them try and break free from each other. The game is for ages 6+. My daughter (6) played and found even the green level very frustrating. I would recommend that this toy is played by ages 8+ because if one member of the chain gang is upset or angry it affects everyone connected! This is a well designed set. Everything is strong and fits nicely together. The kids had no problems changing to the different levels. The only thing that was hard was disconnecting the links from each other if less people were playing. A great board game that gets kids up and playing all at once. There is no waiting to take turns and everyone is in together. This toy was a big hit in our house and brought a lot of laughs.
It's definitely fun for the first few times it's played. My son played it a lot for the first week, then, according to him, "mastered it" to the point that it wasn't fun anymore. The game is totally different than other games we have. My 8 year old really enjoyed learning how to use the "key" to unlock the handcuff mazes. He likes that there are different levels of mazes and a few variations for playing. I think the recommended age is accurate. My 6 year old daughter could only figure out the easiest level maze, but I'm sure if she was interested, she'd be able to improve and learn the other levels as well. My 8 year old had no problem figuring everything out quickly. Perhaps if there were more levels, it would get a better rating. I really do like the design and toy concept. If my son didn't "master" it so quickly, perhaps there'd be more play value.
Escaping from the handcuffs was a highlight for my sony son (11). He loves magic tricks and trying to escape from different things and this was right up his alley. He only played the game itself once or twice, but played with the handcuffs alot. He kept trying to come up with more challenges - handcuffing his hands to his feet - handcuffing to a friend or the stairs, handcuffing in the dark - and all seeing if he could escape. He was always able to do it and he got really fast. He just wished that there were more puzzle options for the handcuffs as he memorized the 3 types and then could escape really fast. If there had been additional challenges or other puzzle types in the handcuffs, that would have been great. The toy worked well and was well designed. The only other issue I had is that even though the handcuffs were adjustable - my daughter (8) has such small wrists that even at the tightest setting she could still slip her hands out of the handcuffs without solving the puzzle. This limited the ability of my kids to play this together. No safety concerns - there is an emergency way to escape the handcuffs if you are really stuck. My son loved this toy and it was one of his favorites that we tested this year. He wishes he could have tested the 3rd YULU game (Operation Escape) as well, as all of them appealed to him.
Pick the lock & escape!Players handcuff themselves together and insert a maze into each handcuff. The game includes three maze colors. Each color represents a different level of difficulty, making each round unpredictable. Using a key, players must try to pick the lock on their handcuff as quickly as possible. The fastest to break free from their handcuff receives a token that corresponds with the maze color. There are points on the back of each token, the player with the most points after playing all three rounds, wins the game.
