Product Reviews

A bit of departure from the usual ThinkFun format, where beginner puzzles ease you into the logic and insights needed to master more difficult challenges. With this one, you're all in right from the start, which may feel a little overwhelming for some kids (and some adults, too!). Not only are you solving the Sudoku challenge, you are also tasked to find the right cube faces to position the colours. The good news is that it is designed to be solved. For example, each cube features only two, 2-colour combos (4 colours total) - repeated in different configurations, so you can narrow your search for the right cube by picking one with the colours you need, then rotate till you find a match. There are other tricks to discover, but discovering them is the challenge, and we don't want to give too much away.

Color Cube Sudoku is a great way to test your patterning skills. As an adult, it doesn't take long to recognize how the colour combinations on each cube can help speed up the patterning process. I tried the game 5 times, and it took between 7 and 15 minutes to complete. After that, I tried the colour pattern variables, but found it beyond my patience and capabilities, which means there are ways to challenge oneself one the basic puzzle becomes too easy. I enjoyed it and would recommend if for young and old who are interested in developing their geometric patterning skills.

It's easier than a Rubik's cube, and took about an hour to solve the first time. But even after solving it, this still felt like trial and error. On the second try, some deductive reasoning was used and it was easier to solve. But it was still mostly trial and error. I prefer puzzles that use more deductive reasoning to solve.
