EDITOR'S REVIEW

A great little adding game to help kids prep for schoool. Works well as a compliment to LEarning REsoources All Ready for First Grade set (http://thenoiseontoys.com/toys/50859/All-Ready-for-First-Grade-Readiness-Kit).

WHAT THE KIDS SAY

Mom, I think we should test this game with my class. I think it would be really good and it would be fun!

I like that there is treasure at the end and I really like the animal pieces that come with the game best and I liked the red seal the best of the pieces. I'm good at finding matches to make 10. I also like to play with the animal pieces outside of the game. I like when we changed the rules to not make it a race for me. I like when you get a shark card and switch your cards. I liked stealing from my mom when I got the octopus card.

WHAT ADULTS THINK

Allison M.

My 5 year old daughter was very keen on playing the game, which is great and she was able to understand the rules. The problem came with it being a speed based game as she was not usually the fastest at finding the matches to 10 and would get really sad when she didn't find the match first. We changed the rules so that it was a race with everyone else but that if she had the match then she would get it, even if someone else had the match too. After the rule change the game went much better with fewer tears. As a parent, I find the game not very interesting, but it's teaching her to count to 10 which is great. She enjoyed playing and finding the matches to 10 and really liked the figurines and the sea creature theme.

Playing the game was a simple, fun way to work on the skill of adding numbers to equal 10. My girls 7, 5, and 3 (with help from her older siblings) were able to play themselves and caught on to the main idea quite quickly. The instructions however were not as detailed as they could have been - I had to read a few times to explain and even then they started playing and we realized we weren't doing it right (taking the cards out of our pile when there was a match - and where to position and group all the extra cards - the ones that were flipped over , the matches, the 'wild' shark and octopus cards.) So it was a bit confusing in terms of 'setup' until we made our own additions to the instructions, but the actual addition and learning was a great tool.

This is a great game for intro to addition - playing the game was a simple, fun way to work on the skill of adding numbers to equal 10. My girls 7, 5, and 4 (with help from her older siblings) were able to play themselves and caught on to the main idea quite quickly. The instructions however were not as detailed as they could have been - I had to read a few times to explain and even then they started playing and we realized we weren't doing it right (taking the cards out of our pile when there was a match - and where to position and group all the extra cards - the ones that were flipped over, the matches, the 'wild' shark and octopus cards.) So it was a bit confusing in terms of 'setup' until we made our own additions to the instructions, but the actual addition and learning was a great tool. After watching my girls play a few rounds, the simplicity of the game kicked in and I found it to be boring and very repetitive (they still were enjoying it though). I think its great as an addition to the grade 1 readiness kit, but as a standalone game, it is very limiting.
