Incredible appeal and play value! This was well-tested for a solid two months in nine different homes. The toy was VERY popular in all but one home where parents gave it a lukewarm review. In all other homes, inital excitement remained a daily thrill throughout the two month testing period. Starting the train was a simple push of the button, altough the saftey feature of requiring the driver to continue holding the button down was initially confusing for our youngest testers. The inluded track was very useful, as it offered a ride for kids too young to steer. Older kids love that the train can also be used off-track, although there is no reverse button. The only issues with this toy are that 1) it requires a lot of space, 2) the poorly designed battery access makes recharging it a nuissance - especially as there is no low-battery warning, and 3) most families complained that the running noise for the train is louder than they'd have liked (best solution is to set it up in the basement). Parental issues asid, Kthe kids had no complaints - in fact, even after two months playing with the toy our testers were still as ecited about it as the day it arrived.
WHAT THE KIDS SAY
I like the yellow button! (The yellow button plays the song and makes Thomas talk)
I love Thomas and the train! I like pushing the buttons and driving it.
Maya choo choo! Yeah! Choo-Choo!
Oooohhhhh Thomas!! This toy is fun! I like to drive it!
WHAT ADULTS THINK
Wow! Dalia absolutely loves riding her Thomas the Train around the house. At 12 months old, she does not yet know how to properly steer but with our guidance, she gets around everything. She sits and presses the gas herself and always has a big smile when she's on it. Choo Choo!! She loves riding her little train and the track makes it that much easier for her since [on the track] she doesn't have to steer. It just goes round and round for her. The speed of the train is just right, not too fast or slow. The only thing I think could be improved on is getting the battery out to charge. It is a pain to have to take it out to charge it.
My daughter (2.5 yrs) loves this toy and never got tired of it. She spent a good hour on it the first time we had it out (we had to ask her to get off) and she has been enjoying it daily ever since. She is loves pushing all the buttons on her own and likes to repeat what Thomas says. She also likes using it off the track, but she frequently runs into walls - luckily, leaving no marks. My 12 month old has more trouble staying on thomas, she slides off the seat and can not keep her finger down on the button that makes you move forward. She has a blast when we help her, but it is definitely not a toy she could use independently. This toy is great if you have a decent amount of space indoors to set it up since the track has a diameter of 6 feet. Setting up the track and thomas train was very easy and the instructions were very clear. I found the noise from the thomas train to be quite loud (I was thankful we could set it up in the basement), and after only a few uses, I noticed that the track is worn slightly from the friction of the wheels. Great toy to keep child entertained and great for playdates too.
I am pleasantly surprised by how much my daughter loves and plays with this toy. She is on it several times a day, with a big, proud grin on her face the whole time. She hams it up, riding while standing, or holding another toy, then presses the Thomas voice button and giggles. I can't find anything negative to say about this toy.
My daughter (F2.5) has never had a toy she was so excited about as this Power Wheels Thomas. It is a brightly coloured charming train that she adores and asks to go on everyday. She loves riding this train as well as playing the various sounds, choo choo! and the Thomas theme song. When we have play dates Raina can't wait to show her friends her Thomas and is even happy to take turns. I like that this ride on toy is on a track so it keeps her safe, the floors don't get damaged and she doesn't run into her baby brother! We have it set up in the basement which is perfect as the motor is quite loud. I thought Raina would be afraid of the noise but she wasn't at all. My daughter, now 34 months has almost outgrown the age recommended for this toy and her legs are too long to fit comfortably into the space so she finds other positions, like standing while riding this train. My daughter is average size for her age, so I would worry that if a child is taller than average that this toy would be outgrown much earlier. For me the only downside is that you have to unscrew the seat to charge the battery, and there is no warning of when the battery will stop working.
When we first got this toy, Evan was 11 months old and wasn't quite able to push the button on his own. His older sister was happy to take him for rides around the house, and the joy on his face when she took him was priceless! He is now almost 13 months old and has been able to take himself for rides for a month. He still adores going for rides, and can climb on and off this toy even though he isn't walking quite yet. He can't steer it on his own, but with some help he can get around the house. He can also go around on the tracks when we set them up, too. The only downside of this is that it is pretty loud when it's running, but it's not terrible. Evan loves this toy!

Like the idea of this toy, especially when driven on a track. Off-track, on regular flooring F3 kept trying to drive it into things and the speed off the track seems fast for inside our house. F3 loves to press the button to hear the Thomas phrases, but it is very loud, even though we taped over the speaker to decrease the volume. Wish that there was a volume setting because it seems to be startling and upsetting F1. F1 is too small to ride on it and would require a parent to hold her on the seat and operate the train too. Better suited for a child who is at least 18 months old.
We hadn't planned on testing this toy right away, but as soon as our little one spotted the picture, she ran up and hugged the box. Maya(23m) absolutely loved it. She squealed with delight. Couldn't quite figure out the moving mechanism perfectly, but between it and pressing the button for sounds she had a blast. The train does a bit of skidding on the tracks, but totally functional. Required some initial setup with battery and adjustments, but laying the tracks was done entirely by my 6-yold.
My daugther (2yr,4mths) loved the toy. It was easy for her to learn, she loves the sounds, and she enjoyed riding on the track and off the track. But while she loves it, we as parents are less then thrilled. It is really loud! Thankfully we have a spare room that we could set it up in and close the door. It could have a longer track or option to add more and it needs a reverse button. The speed was safe and the toy was stable enough so there were no concerns with it tipping over. Downfalls of the toy: it is expensive and it is very loud.
This is not a take-out-of-the-box-and-play toy! The instructions are well done, but there are so many things to do. So after battery charge, Thomas assembly, stickers on Thomas, and track assembly - we were ready to try this toy. William (16m) was very exited. He got on and off many times before he realized he was to stay on Thomas and drive. Since he did not understand that he must keep his finger on the button, he is in a constant stop and go movement. Thomas' motor is very loud, too loud. Since Thomas the train is on the tracks William does not have to direct it, this is a good thing. Unfortunately, even by the time he was 17m, William did not have enough interest in this toy for me to justify paying that much money for a toy. Now William will only play with the toy if his sister (7y) is playing with him. As well, I do think that 12m is too young for this kind of rinding toy. To finish, this toy takes lots of room and makes lots of noise.
You need space! This toy is big and needs space, but very it's exciting as a ride on toy with track. It can also be used off track and moves around very well with good steering. Thankfully we have an open concept basement that was perfect for this toy. My son (2 1/2) really enjoys this toy, as much on and off track and he doesn't want to get off! It's an easy one button operation which makes it easy for kids to understand. And the little Thomas phrases are cute and catching, he loves to repeat what is said. Good instructions and very quick assembly! My only issue with this toy is that the motor noise is very loud and after just a few weeks the wheels and tracks were already scratched. Otherwise hours of fun for kids!!
