WHAT THE KIDS SAY

Well this is not as bad as I thought, I don"t like game like this usually, I 'd rather pick out clothes and hair color for dolls but I actually liked playing the game and I surprised my mother by asking for my own Skylander for Christmas, it has to be a cute one like the unicorn or something.

I love skylanders gients! I want them all for Christmas! The battles are really fun and I like that I can play against my brother and sister, and they can't use my caracter, he's mine!

I like to play because I have a lots of lives, and if I loose against my brother I just put another character on the portal and I can keep going. It's easy to play but the battles are hard to win,

This is not like regular video games, our physical character is translated into the game, I like that I can buy the character I want to see and play with, the price isn't bad to buy other Giants and stuff and the game is a little expensive but the is so much to play with and there are a lot of fun things to do in the Skylander world that it's worth it. I have been playing for a few days and I am far from being done.

WHAT ADULTS THINK

There are 3 difficulty levels to choose from. My 8 and 6 yr old are playing on easy and it is plenty challenging for them. The controls are quite basic which is great for the beginning gamer. Olivia isn't frustrated with not being about to control her character properly. It is quite easy to go from one player to two (or vice-versa) mid-game. You can even change your characters whenever you want. What we've found out is that if your character dies too often (which is the case when Olivia is playing) your charater becomes too tired (according to the game) and needs to rest. Which means that that character cannot be played for a period of time. My kids each adopted a character as their own so when Olivia's character was too tired (after only about 30 min of play) she was quite disappointed and did not want to use a different one. We tried removing the character and using it again 10 minutes later but the game still insisted that the character was too tired! Alors with running around the world, collecting loot and 'shooting bad guys', there are some parts which require use of logic to get through which is a nice aspect from a parents point of view. The game saves automatically but only after you finish a level (which in our case took between 30 and 45 min)There is no option to save the game manually mid-level which means that when you decide to stop playing, you either loose you progress within that level or extend your playing time until you finish the level. (Not great for bedtimes!)The box states that this game is for kids 6 and up but the game itself is rated for ages 10 and up. Olivia (f6)has no problem playing the game when following the lead of another player but is unable to go through the level on her own (1 player) Kael (m8) has no problems whatsoever playing the game. I think my kids would play this all day if I let them.

I like the beautiful light effect that comes from the portal, it's quite pretty and having a physical representation of the characters is an interesting feature. The game has battles, but no gore. It looks like a quest or something. I don't really get it, I just know my kids (f13, m11, f9, m8) have been fascinated with it since it turned on. While my youngest waits for his turn, he plays with the Giant figurines and has imaginary wars. The graphics are beautiful. Well done game!
